Rates depend on the merchant’s spending category and the size of your purchase, and the matrix is different by the hour — each UTC hour has its own rates. How a Boosted Rate is earned: Any rate in the grid above the base 0.5x (a “Boosted Rate”) is earned on only your first Qualifying Purchase in that category while that rate is in effect. Every later purchase in the same category earns the base 0.5x until a new rate takes effect for that category. This applies to all Boosted Rates shown above, including any surge windows. In addition, if you have more than 10 refunds in the prior 30 calendar days, all of your purchases earn the base 0.5x and no Boosted Rates apply until your refund count over the trailing 30-day period falls back to 10 or fewer. Rates lock at authorization: The rate that applies to a purchase is the rate in effect when the purchase is authorized, and it applies only to the amount authorized at that moment. If the amount that finally settles is larger than the amount authorized — for example, when a tip, gratuity, or other adjustment is added to the same transaction after authorization — the extra amount above the authorized amount earns the base 0.5x, even if a Boosted Rate applied to the original authorization. Most points you can earn in a month: Your monthly limit (the “Rewards Cap”) is set by your own spending — in any one statement period you can’t earn more than 100 Coverd Points for each dollar of Qualifying Purchases on your prior statement, less any Coverd Points you earned during that statement. For your first month, before there’s a prior statement to measure, we start you at 50,000 Coverd Points, and the cap never drops below that 50,000-point floor in any later period.
